DEACONS HEADING TO PERTH
The National Association of Deacons’ (NAD) biennial national conference is heading to Perth. The 2019 Conference will take place from 3 to 6 October, 2019 at The University of Notre Dame Australia’s Fremantle campus. All deacons, candidates and aspirants from Australia and New Zealand, of any Catholic rite, and their wives are invited to attend with early bird registration closing on 30 June. Others who attend include those responsible for deacon formation and other interested clergy from across Australia.

FORMATION AND COMMUNITY FOCUS OF DEACONS' CONFERENCE
The 2019 Conference, with the theme “I and the Father are One,” (John 17:21), will take place from October 3–6 at the University of Notre Dame Australia’s Fremantle campus. All permanent deacons, candidates and aspirants from Australia and New Zealand, of any Catholic rite, and their wives, are invited to attend. Others who attend include those responsible for deacon formation and other interested clergy from across Australia.

"BEING A DEACON
IS BEING OF SERVICE"
Roque Dias’s ordination to the permanent diaconate will be a continuation of his life of service to others. “Being a deacon is being of service. Father Chris de Souza, said to me that although ministry is part of what a deacon does, a deacon should be someone who sits in the messiness of people’s lives,” Roque said. Roque, will be ordained to the diaconate on 22 February 2019 at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Parramatta.

THE CHURCH IS UNDERPOWERED WITHOUT DEACONS
Roderick Pirotta is excited about his upcoming ordination to the permanent diaconate and is looking forward to the continuation of his call to ministry. “To me, the diaconate is a way of life, not just the celebration on the ordination day and I’ve been living that way of life for as long as I’ve been married.” Roderick, will be ordained to the diaconate on 22 February 2019 at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Parramatta.

NEW NATIONAL COORDINATOR FOR
PERMANENT DIACONATE
Adelaide’s Deacon Tim Grauel was recently appointed as national coordinator of the permanent diaconate for the Bishops Office for Clergy Life and Ministry.
